Aechmea chantinii 'Black Ebony'
Family: Bromeliaceae •
Genus: Aechmea •
Species: chantinii •
Country of Origin: Hybrid •
One of my favorite bromeliads. Just look at the amazing display this plant puts on. Even when it's not flowering it is beautiful. It's green with white striping on the inside and dark purple with white striping on the outside of the leaves. I have this in the front and back yard where it gets filtered sun. It blooms every year with amazing red & yellow bracts, the flowers seem insignificant by comparison.

Not fully in bloom yet, but still putting on a nice display. I'll post some more pictures when the little purple flowers bloom, what you see here is just the bracts. I grow these front and back in variable lighting.

One of my smaller bromeliads. I've divided this many times so it's all over the yard in a variety of conditions. I found this on a tree growing on a lot that was being demolished (I'm the savior of thrown away plants), sure glad I saved it! It has interesting little flowers that bloom frequently.
