Around the yard....

Stuff just blooms like crazy around here. It's been raining for three or four days now and I finally got out to take some pictures. Enjoy!

Dendrobium bullenianum third time it's bloomed this year you can see the other times it bloomed here

and here

I have a keiki of this. I can't wait for it to be blooming size. This is truly an amazing Dendrobium the flowers bloom off what looks like a dead cane as you can see. The flowers are orange with a cool red striping. I grow this one in a wood basket. It gets a little extra water during summer other than that it's pretty much on it's own! Just look at the results.

Cochliostema jacobianum compare to when I bought it
www.flickr.com/photos/i_like_plants/2445696236/
this plant has the most amazing fragrant lilac and purple flowers that look like little birds. I can't wait till it flowers so I can share it with you!
More red bananas Musa sp. I'm going to cook the flower this time. My friend Sunita (The Urban Gardener) linked me to a good recipe. Anyone have another to share?

Brassavola nodosa Look at this little thing grow compare to before http://ilikerareplants.blogspot.com/2008/09/naturalizing-orchids.html
those roots are really taking off. This orchid is highly fragrant at night I can't wait to enjoy the intoxicating scent!!!!
Oncidium 'Sharry Baby' smells like...................chocolate!!!!!
I broke part of one of the spikes but it just branched out. This is another highly fragrant orchid Mmmmmmmm chocolate it smells heavenly!

Charichuela Garcinia madruno here's an earlier post about this rare fruit
http://ilikerareplants.blogspot.com/2008/08/garcinia-spp.html
It had yellow leaves so I applied magnesium, the leaves greened up and it's growing like a weed now!

Can you identify what this is? #1
and this #2
Odd looking isn't it!

Cool Stuff Around the Yard!

Moss and lichens growing on my Phoenix roebelenii. I just love the way they grow all over everything here. I'm not sure what species they are.
Look at the brutal spines on this volunteer palm (Livistona sp.?) It just sprouted and I like the way it looks so I let it grow!
Flowers from my Kalanchoe thyrsifolia. These plants are typically grown for the unique leaves that are round and succulent. I thought the flowers were pretty unique too!
Pentas lanceolata volunteer! I love it when good things pop up in the yard. I have a "don't pull too early" policy with weeds. I like to wait and see what it is first. This is a keeper.
White leaves on my Thunbergia grandilflora must be some sort of mineral deficiency! It was about dead, but now it seems like it is coming back to life.
Asclepias curassavica sprouts everywhere in my yard. It's the Monarch butterflies larval food source so I let it grow everywhere even though it's real leggy this time of the year.
Hope you enjoy the small things as much as I do!!

Cool stuff around my yard......

Combretum aubletii - Monkey's Brush, is native to Brazil. I just had to share its beautiful foliage. No, it's not diseased, it changes colors as it matures and wait till you see the flowers they are amazing!

Dendrobium bullenianum - I have some new shoots here's more pics and info http://ilikerareplants.blogspot.com/2008/07/dendrobium-bullenianum.html

Prosthechea cochleata - roots. This species is native to Florida so I'm naturalizing it on a Tabebuia impetiginosa This is one of the other orchids I was talking about in a earlier post. http://ilikerareplants.blogspot.com/2008/09/naturalizing-orchids.html

Ren. philippinesis x kaisum - one of my new purchases this year and it's blooming already!!!

Anthurium sp. [S-170-02] - look at the root system this plant has developed. It loves it in that terra-cotta pot. Awesome flower too!

Tillandsia sp. - This native bromeliad was pollinated and now I have a seed pod. I need to do a little research on how to propagate this plant.

Musa sp. - Banana this is a new acquisition a friend gave me. The only thing he knew about it is that it was from Colombia. I have a peeper already.
